Veterinary Medicine Specialists of Dallas / Ft. Worth (VMS) was established in August 2008 by Drs. Caeley Melmed and Erika Pickens. Prior to this, they both practiced small animal internal medicine in the Dallas area for several years. Our doctors and staff are dedicated to diagnosing and treating your beloved dogs and cats in order to enhance their lives. We strive daily to provide quality patient care and thorough communication with owners and referring veterinarians. |
The Referral Process |
Your primary care veterinarian should first fax us the necessary information about your pet (client and patient information, patient history, diagnostic tests, and therapy). Each new visit begins by meeting with the client(s) and their pet to obtain a complete history of the problem and perform an in-depth physical examination. The veterinary internist then makes recommendations for further diagnostic tests and treatment options. Our areas of expertise include digestive diseases (gastrointestinal tract and pancreas), liver disease, endocrinology (hormonal illness), cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, kidney / urinary tract diseases, hematology (blood disorders), infectious diseases, and some types of neoplasia (cancer). |
Located within The Animal Emergency Hospital and Veterinary Specialty Center, we also work closely with the other specialties to offer you and your pet the best care available. Other services include Animal Emergency Hospital of North Texas, Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center, Animal Dermatology Referral Clinic, Animal Ophthalmology Clinic, and North Texas Animal Rehabilitation. |
Hour of Operation |
We are open Monday through Friday for routine and emergency referral appointments. "Walk-in" cases (i.e. no scheduled referral) will be directed initially to the Animal Emergency Hospital of North Texas, which is open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Staff will be available for calls between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Patients scheduled as drop-off appointments (not available for initial evaluations of patients) may arrive starting at 7:30 AM. |
