Dr. Caeley J. Melmed
Dr. Melmed grew up in Dallas and later attended Texas A&M University for both undergraduate and veterinary school degrees. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. Thereafter, she attended The Ohio State University for an Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Melmed then returned to Texas A&M University to pursue a residency in Internal Medicine. Following completion of her residency in 2004, she returned to Dallas and has practiced Internal Medicine in the D/FW area since that time. Dr. Melmed's particular interests include hematology, immune mediated disease, renal disease, hepatic disease, as well as critical internal medicine cases.

Dr. Erika Haschke Pickens
Dr. Pickens was born in Seattle, WA and grew up primarily in Austin, TX. She graduated Cum Laude from Texas A&M University with her Bachelors of Science degree in Biomedical Science in 1995. She remained at TAMU and graduated Cum Laude in 1999 with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. This was followed by a one year Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Metroplex Veterinary Centre in Irving, TX. Dr. Pickens worked in the Houston area as general practitioner for 2 years. She then pursued her long-time interest in internal medicine and completed a residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at Louisiana State University. She has been practicing Internal Medicine in the D/ FW area since 2004. Dr. Pickens' interests include endocrinology, hematology, infectious disease, and critical internal medicine cases.

Dr. Nicole Culwell
Dr. Culwell grew up in Ossining, NY. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1998 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University in 2003. She completed a 1-year Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Internship at Oklahoma State University in 2004. Her cardiology training was accomplished at The Ohio State University, under the mentorship of Dr. John Bonagura and Dr. Karsten Schober. In December 2007, she completed the 3-year Residency and simultaneously earned a Master of Science degree. The topic of her research was evaluation of left ventricular systolic function in mitral valvular endocardiosis using 2D strain imaging. Dr. Culwell also has an active interest in interventional cardiology. She was a Clinical Assistant Professor at Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences prior to joining VMS.
